A Closer Look at the Efficiency of AST Equipment

In our first blog post of 2022, 5 Ways AST Can Help You Reach Your Business Goals in 2022, we examined five ways that AST equipment and AST can help your business in 2022.

Our last post, An In-Depth Look at How AST Equipment Helps You Produce Quality Results, looked at Way #1 in more depth.

In this post, we will look at some of the ways that AST equipment is optimized for efficiency. Some of these help your spray day to be more efficient while others reduce the amount of overhead work you have to do to maintain your spray rig.

Fast Spraying
Spray Jobs Fast

The first way that AST equipment saves you time is by allowing you to spray jobs fast. High horsepower motors power a strong hydraulic system and high CFM compressors. That means you have complete control over how much material and how much air you want coming out at the gun. You can turn these settings up and spray as fast as you want.

Save Time on Mixing

Another way that big rigs save you time is in the mixing process. Our last post described how mixing material in a large tank allows you to only mix one batch. We talked about how this helps you achieve uniform results throughout the house, but we didn’t mention how this helps efficiency.

Only having to mix a single batch of texture is a lot quicker than if you had to mix multiple times. Sometimes spray crews consist of someone spraying and someone mixing texture and continually feeding it to the sprayer. This system certainly works, but mixing once, before you start spraying, is faster, more efficient, and requires fewer people.

Save Overhead Time on Maintenance and Repair

Every piece of equipment requires maintenance. There is no way around that. There are ways, however, that you can increase the amount of time between required maintenance and to make it easier to perform repairs when something goes wrong. How does the design of AST equipment take this into account?

We start with components (engines, compressors, etc.) that are reliable and meet AST’s strict quality guidelines. That has to be the starting point, otherwise the time spent on repairs will overshadow any optimization of maintenance anyway. Once reliability has been addressed, we can look at some of the ways that maintenance is optimized:

When purchasing a spray rig, consider adding the HD Pump option. This option upgrades a few different areas of your pump, but the most relevant to this discussion is the use of Star Drive technology. The industry standard for spray rigs is square drive connecting components. Star Drive connecting components increase the surface area of the connecting pump parts: the hydraulic motor coupling, connecting rod, and rotor. Star Drive connecting components last up to four times longer than standard square drive, vastly decreasing the amount of pump maintenance you need to perform.

On the routine maintenance side of things, big rigs are designed to give easy access to anything that requires maintenance. Engine and compressor filters are easily accessible at the back of the rig. On trailer-mounted rigs, bearing buddies make it easy to grease wheel bearings. These design considerations make your routine maintenance quick and simple.

Improve Your Spray Day

These are a few of the ways that AST equipment improves the efficiency of your business. Not only are your spray days smoother, but your overhead time spent on maintenance and repair is vastly decreased. In short, you’ll have increased performance and fewer headaches, a win-win.
